There is capability in
Akport Tekirdağ Port to serve Bulk, General Cargo and Container Loads in Old
Wharf, New Wharf and Container Terminal. Predominantly handling of bulk loads is
performed in Akport Tekirdağ Port. However, service is also provided for
exported or imported General Cargo loads of some industrial facilities located
in region.
Bulk Cargo Handled at Port ; are wheat, sun flower seeds, soda, glass sand,
bran, fertilizer and pulp. General Cargo loads are fertilizer, flour, iron,
refrigerator, glass, wire rods, pick iron, waste paper and rolled paper. Bulk
liquid cargos are liquid oils, caustic soda, acetic acid and molasses.
The Ro-Ro services not made for longer years in Akport – Tekirdağ Port was
initiated with Tekirdağ- Trieste services in 1998 and continued up to 2001.
In the last month of 2008, a contract is executed with BTK Ro-Ro Company to
provide port services to Ro-Ro Vessels to operate between Tekirdağ- Trieste. The
services will start from our port in the first quarter of 2009.
In addition, Ro-Ro services started as a first in Turkey within Marmara Sea
between Tekirdağ- Bandırma ports then, additionally the services between
Tekirdağ-Erdek, Tekirdağ- Karabiga and Tekirdağ Adalar are started and
continuing.
In order to become a technical port in Marmara Region, Container services
commenced in August 1999 and first phase was completed in May 2002
Second phase terminal investment which is projected to be completed at the end
of 2009 year is initiated. When the construction is completed, the port will
have wharf with a total length of 2 km and terminal area of 130 decares with the
addition of -14 meters draft and 700 meters long wharf and 20 decares terminal.
55% of total construction is completed up to day. A part of 200 meters of our
construction will start to serve by July 2009. 69 persons are employed in our
port currently as administrative and operational staff.
