Akport Container Terminal,
located in Trakya Industrial Region that is 136 km from Istanbul is the first
special container terminal of the region. Terminal, a fully private
establishment, is serving its customers using up to date technology. The
terminal is developed in two phases. The first phase became ready for operation
as of May 1st.
The investment of second phase of terminal which is projected to be completed by
the end of 2009 is started. When the construction is completed, the port will
have wharf with a total length of 2 km and terminal area of 130 decares with the
addition of -14 meters draft and 700 meters long wharf and 20 decares terminal.
55% of total construction is completed up to day. A part of 200 meters of our
construction will start to serve by July 2009.
Akport Container Terminal provides below advantages to “independent” “open for
all kinds of use” customers:
* New handling equipments in line with latest technology, terminal designed for
purpose.
* Container handling with high efficiency is supported with modern and automatic
container management system.
* Terminal is open 7 days /24 hours for acceptance and leave operations of
containers.
* "One Stop Port": all kinds of port services; pilotage and towage, storage, are
provided by employing own staff and equipment. .
* As it is located at the mid point of Trakya Industrial Region, it provides
direct connection to industry and economy around Istanbul
(European Side).
* Bunkering service free of customs fee is provided through barges and highway
tankers.
On the other hand, contract is executed with Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC)
Company for the operational planning of Akport Container Terminal, to determine
and implement the stocking layouts and necessary studies are initiated.
Meantime, since Marmara Region is within an earthquake zone, an agreement is
made with HR Wallingford Company to inspect the essential technical calculations
against natural disasters including earthquake about our being built Container
Terminal and steps are taken for necessary studies.
As the Container Terminal in Akport Tekirdağ Port completed and began to serve
including Marmara Region primarily to Trakya region, the region will find the
Main Port needed.
